The Cape Town Club

Phil Thurston, General Manager of The Cape Town Club

The Club began in 1858 and found its permanent home in 1898 — a Sir Herbert Baker design, funded by Cecil Rhodes. Once a hub for South Africa’s early powerbrokers, it was where Jan Smuts drafted the 1939 declaration of war. Women were admitted in 1979. After closing in 2017, the Club returned in 2024 to honour its past while embracing a more inclusive future.

The Cape Town Club is a historic members’ club reimagined for a more modern, more inclusive Cape Town. It features a grand salon, a library, privite dining and a member's bar. And it also has three venues catering to three different moods: from laid-back coffee to elevated dining and live performance allowing you to experience the full flavour of the Club, all under one roof.

The Victoria Café offers fresh food, great coffee, and casual café culture — with a peek into the Club’s historic charm. And it's open to all.

The Gallery is all about modern Cape cuisine served with sweeping views of Table Mountain. And it's where Mid-century style meets fine dining, day or night.

The Mara Lounge is an intimate lounge for live music, cocktails, and late-night energy with jazz, DJs, and more — and it is exclusively for members.

"The Cape Town Club ... exclusive by design, inclusive by nature"

Where decadence meets glamour. Opulent hotel rooms, plush carpeted passageways, smokey snooker rooms, rich wood-panelled libraries and leather pin-tucked arm chairs, and a world shaped by iconic designers. Here, luxury isn't an accessory - it's the atmosphere.

Our “City Luxe” story was photographed at The Cape Town Club, South Africa's leading private members club since 1858 and features international model Princess Claudia, represented by Twenty Model Management.
